Why you should celebrate porn consumption!

Porn helps with stress, improves your relationship and increases your libido: the perfect Christmas gift!

By Emmeline Peaches

Porn is perhaps one of the last great taboos of western culture. Violence is an enjoyed (and even expected) part of most great action movies, so-called curse words are now placed on mugs, calendars, and Christmas cards for our general amusement, but mention sex, let alone watching sex recreationally, and society on large simply can’t cope.

Some countries are even trying to aggressively monitor porn consumption, and people who watch porn are still regularly shamed, looked down upon, and forced in to a secretive approach that ultimately damages their self-worth and their relationships.

But what if we changed this up?

What if, instead of denigrating people for their porn consumption we actually celebrated it? So much so that we gave our loved ones the gift of a porn subscription for Christmas (or similar festive occasions)?

Even if you’re a porn enthusiast you may have doubts about this one, but hear us out. These are some of the reasons why we think porn makes the perfect gift.

#1 It Has A Positive Effect On An Individuals Sexual Outlook

Curious about the notion that hardcore pornography increases a person’s tendency to pursue sex crimes (as some anti-porn individuals have claimed) researchers Gert Martin Hald and Neil M Malamuth conducted a survey on 688 Danish adults (316 men and 372 women) aged between 18-30.

In their study they found that such pornography had actually made them feel more confident about sex and themselves. This positive outlook included several key areas of sexual wellbeing such as sexual knowledge, attitudes towards sex, perception of the opposite sex, their sex lives, and their general quality of life.

Of even more interest was that women noted the most benefits, reporting more positives than the males in the research survey, which is something we’re thrilled to hear!

#2 It’s A Stress Buster

Life is crazy stressful, Christmas especially, so it’s a nice added bonus that pornography has been linked to stress reduction.

A 2013 study by a team in Carnegie Mellon University (lead by Dr. J David Creswell) found that men who looked at images of naked women performed up to 50% better on a controlled stress test (the section showing the most improvement being math), suggesting that porn can help men manage otherwise stressful situations.

While this study was conducted on men, there’s no reason to think that women couldn’t also have tangible benefits (or any other gender). But, alas, science just isn’t providing the smut equally just yet.

#3 It Has Tangible Health Benefits (For Some)

If you’re giving the gift of porn to your gentleman (or anyone with a prostate) then you’ll also be increasing their chance of good health and helping them decrease their risk of cancer.

A 2016 study found that ejaculating 21 times a month can help reduce the risk of prostate cancer in men.

Granted, it doesn’t matter whether or not that ejaculation involves pornography, but I think most of us can agree that pornography is one way to help people meet their monthly quota.

While this is an important health study, it’s should also be stressed that ejaculation causes a reduction in cancer risks, and only for prostate cancer. It is not a cure for cancer, nor a form of alternative treatment that should be relied upon.

Either way, I’m sure your partner will be flattered that you have their best medical interest at heart, especially if you join them for some of their ‘health activities’. Which ties in nicely with our next benefit…

#4 It Can Help Improve Relationships

Porn viewed in secrecy never leads to a good outcome but the porn isn’t the problem in such scenarios – the lack of communication and sense of betrayal and secrecy is. But become open to porn, and actually watch it together and there are some very positive relationship effects.

One study by Resch and Alderson found that women whose partners were open about pornography felt that there was a higher sense of satisfaction in their relationship, and showed very low levels of distress at their partner’s pornographic appreciation. This contrasted to those whose partners were insincere, who found themselves with high levels of distress.

Taking things a step further, if you decide to watch porn together (or just talk about your pornographic likes and dislikes) then porn can also be a great way to share your interests, get an idea of what each other likes, and perhaps try some new and exciting sex acts together.

All of this is easily facilitated if you’re the one who actually gifted the porn, especially if it’s based on prior knowledge of the type of erotica your partner appreciates. Things get better when we share.

#5 It Can Boost Their Libido (Or Yours, Or Both!)

One only need look at the boom in sex toy purchases after Fifty Shades of Grey in order to know that consuming erotic content increases libido. It’s practically a given! But this point may be especially important for people who struggle with libido and have an active interest in changing this (or have a partner that has expressed such concerns).

A 2015 study by Prause and Pfaus found that men were able to increase their libido and no negative impact on their erectile function (as a big, erect middle finger to anyone who says that pornography makes men unable to have sex with ‘real people’).

So by gifting pornography you may be being a little bit selfish (especially if you’re hoping for more sex as the outcome) but, hey, all gifts are ultimately about wanting the other person to be happy, and that shouldn’t be a bad thing.

Join in with your partner’s porn viewing and you’ll likely also reap the libido-boosting benefits too, which may lead to some after-viewing enjoyment. It’s a win-win!

And That’s All For Now!

Hopefully we’ve shown you why porn isn’t just a good gift but perhaps the perfect one for increasing sexual confidence, helping improve your partner’s health, and bringing you closer together (both physically and emotionally).

Just make sure that you invest in an ethically responsible porn subscription from a company that supports and respect their team. We may be a bit biased but we’d like to think that a Dusk membership could be the perfect Christmas gift.
